Hi Friends,
I know it’s been a very long time since I updated my site, and I truly appreciate my brother Randy for finally saying....”what’s up with that?” You can also visit me at myspace.com.
I can’t believe that I’m already in my 4th year of teaching at The City College of New York. The students and faculty are fantastic, and our new jazz vocal curriculum is attracting singers from around the globe.
I recorded my new CD - “Out of the Hub: The Music of Freddie Hubbard” on August 26-27, 2008 with me on vocals, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Steve Wilson on alto/sop sax, Jeff Pittson on piano, John Patitucci on bass and Willie Jones III on drums. Wow....what an experience. On September 15, Freddie approved the lyrics that Jeff, Evan and I wrote to 5 of his tunes, perhaps the greatest honor of my life. I’m so happy that I was able to see Freddie at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC last June – to tell him he is my idol, take a pic together and discuss the project. His passing on December 29, 2008 is a great loss.
Freddie Hubbard is arguably one of the greatest musicians in the history of jazz, and the effects of his musical innovations will be felt far into the future. What good fortune to have been able to hear him play live on so many occasions....there was really nothing quite like that!!!
I hope that each and every one of you is living your life to the fullest, and I look forward to seeing or hearing from you soon.
Love, Suzanne
